What is meant by dental surgery?

Dental surgery is a collective term for a number of procedures that a dentist may perform. These procedures may be used to correct damage to the teeth, replace teeth that are beyond repair, or improve the general appearance and function of the teeth.

Apart from the treatment of different medical conditions, dental surgery is also applied for cosmetic purposes. These include polishing and scaling of teeth, surgical alignment of teeth, adjusting size, etc. Cosmetic surgeries involving the maxillofacial region of the head also fall under dental surgeries.
